Geoclue is a modular geoinformation service built on top of the D-Bus messaging system. The goal of the Geoclue project is to make creating location-aware applications as simple as possible.
Geoclue is Free Software, licensed under GNU LGPL. It is developed for Linux, but should be portable to any platform that uses D-Bus.

Wordpress has been choosen as the internal blogging platform for NTNU Library (UBiT) in Trondheim. I have been busy the last couple of days to look at the different aspects of Wordpress. Obviously Wordpress has quite some advantages like for instance tagging blog postings and also other features. It also has the ability to import all your blog postings from earlier used blogging platforms. I would probably continue this blog because Wordpress blogging at UBIT is firstly meant to be for internal matters and I prefer to have my blog open for the whole world. The Wordpress server version is hosted by BIBSYS and admin for Wordpress is my good colleague Rurik Greenall. The wordpress blogs at UBIT will have IP check and you will have to log on with username and password or you will have to log on with a VPN ipsec connection to vpn.ntnu.no.

It's a huge gap in the DDC(Dewey Decimal Classification)22 when it comes to finding the right classification number on books about "new" emerging trends and technology on the web. The web 2.0 and beyond is not covered at all. More and more libraries are spending money on technology to improve our online services while still having their physical libraries with books still made out of paper. To have system and order in our physical book collection we need to give our books a classification number, a lot of libraries use dewey.
What should we do about the problem? I once tried to send a mail to those people behind the 025.431 Dewey Blog but never got any answer back. It should be added that my question was more specified than just the lack of good dewey numbers to cover "new" web trends.
I guess a very dedicated librarian only has their special beloved dewey numbers and nothing else matters?
But I think this is quite a important issue deserving to be taken more serious.
Should librarians around the world join forces and demand important updates in the DDC?
The webdewey is no better on this subject.

I picked up this article on Paul Thurrot's supersite for Windows. Hopefully ipod Touch will be blessed with some of the same functionalities, but probably you have to pay for the update. Several libraries are present in Facebook but what have they to offer? Do the Facebook users expect to find library resources in Facebook? This is a question that probably quite a few "tech-librarians" have asked themselves. When potential library user never use our regular library site/homepage the challenge is to meet the user on their homeground. Norway is the country in the world most active on Facebook, almost 1,2 million users and only 4 million inhabitants. That's amazing.
When presenting library resources in Facebook the clue is probably to keep it simple and clean like for instance the Google search. Facebook's main focus is without doubt the social aspect, meeting friends, have fun and share items. You could choose between 20 600 applications in Facebook, most of them built just for the purpose of having fun.
Why should the users choose library applications?
I think the answer is to be found in the word "quality". A lot a people have already had enough of crappy apps, it's even led to the creation of a Facebook group called:
"Putting the app in crap". My colleague Rurik Greenall has created a nice and clean looking Facebook app making it possible to search in BIBSYS Ask (the norwegian library catalogue) and also to log onto their personalized "my page" function inside BIBSYS Ask and manage their book orders, book renewals.
Let Facebook become more than just a continuation of puberty.

I am really waiting for Firefox to make a web browsing solution for the Symbian OS on mobile phones, with their Minimo project they seem to only aim the Windows Mobile market. Why? Her is a list of compatible devices so far. You already have Miniopera for mobile phones, but it gives you far from a pleasant browsing experience, but that's probably because his big brother is not much better.

This addon for Firefox is really a special treat for those of you not satisfied with the possibility to upload pictures through Picasa, Flickr etc. The addon could manage a huge amount of different accounts, either with the same service or different services. Fireuploader is supporting this services:
Google Docs Bar is a Firefox extension that shows the list of documents from Google Docs in the sidebar. The extension has many features from Google's file explorer: you can search for a file, restrict the list to documents,spreadsheets or presentations and view a certain folder (the subfolders aren't yet supported).A great feature that makes this extension more valuable is uploading files using drag and drop. Drag one or more files from Windows Explorer to the sidebar and they'll be uploaded in the background. For those who are worried about security, the extension sends your credentials directly to Google and stores them in Firefox's password manager. After installing the extension, you can make the sidebar visible by going to View > Sidebar > Google Docs Bar. The sidebar will always show the list of documents and it's useful if you frequently use Google Docs.
